Learning takes commitment

I’m finally back to continue this journey. I’m going to give you a quick catch up on my progress today.

After my second class, I wanted to try this painting thing on my own. I set up a “mini studio” in our kitchen (more on that another day). I had a few photos lined up that I thought would be worthy. These were from my early efforts.

We did a landscape in our third class, then more still life’s, from photos and real life. Our teacher, Alice O’Leary, has been great to make us stretch, quickly, every week is a new lesson. I will discuss some of our lessons in future blogs. Here are a two of my class paintings.

I continued with my paintings at home. I’m pretty fast, not sure if that is my ability or lack of detail and patience?? I try to paint looser every week. I started fairly tight (accurate), using a small brush to paint in details. Alice emphasizes using larger brushes for loose painting, my family says “impressionistic” when describing my style. I would say I’m a long way from meeting that description, but it’s a good goal. Here are some of my better early paintings.

I try to paint 4-5 days a week, which includes my 3-hour class each week. If I can paint all day, I sometimes produce 3 paintings. Now, these are small, mostly 5×7 or 6×6 inches. Class paintings are usually 8×10 or 9×12.   Obviously, our house is starting to fill up with inventory. Leighton wandered around the other night, trying to figure out where we can expand. Ha ha, not yet. However, it is August and I have painted over 100 paintings so far. Here are a few of my later efforts.
